THE FUTURE IS HERE

The pace of technological development is always changing with new ways to shop, commute and live. With these developments, it’s hardly surprising that supermarkets are caught in this same storm of change.
The Store of the Future: An Exploration and Planning Guide, the newest study from the Coca‑Cola Retailing Research Council (CCRRC) of North America, examines how technology promises to reshape the supermarket shopping trip, thanks to the growing use of big data, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and more.
Surprisingly, most of the technology described in the report isn’t something of the future; it exists today but isn’t widely employed yet.
An example of these new advancements is 5G connectivity – an ultra-wideband cell phone service already being advertised by leading cell phone providers. Much of the technology featured in the council’s report is made possible through 5G connectivity, a capability that is quickly emerging.
